Pipeline: Northland

Northland welcomes a new, refreshed Entertainment and Leisure Precinct

Located just 13-kilometres north-east of Melbourne CBD, Northland Shopping Centre has been a hub of the community for more than 50 years.

Anchored by Myer, Kmart and a selection of supermarkets, Northland is also home to a wide range of international retailers and more than 200 specialty stores.

Following a renovation of Northland’s retail circuit in 2021, plans have now been revealed for a major refresh of the centre’s entertainment and leisure precinct, transforming it into a family friendly environment with a leading offering of dining and entertainment providers.

This evolution of Northland will deliver a contemporary makeover including a refreshed colour palette and custom design elements including new comfortable lounge areas and a children’s play zone. Upgrades also feature new facades and landscape upgrades.

Complementing the new look Northland will be a handful of new retailers including X Golf and Mad Mex.

“Our vision is to create a modern and contemporary new look for Northland’s outdoor dining area, an improved centre atmosphere, and new leisure and dining experiences for Melbourne’s north.” said Fragale.

“Leveraging our Data Science and Insights in combination with our ongoing community engagement, we know the introduction of fresh new design elements and a children’s play area will be well-received and well-used by our customers.

“We’re also pleased to add to our already impressive array of retailers, dining and entertainment providers to offer the widest variety of any shopping centre in Melbourne’s northern suburbs.

“We can’t wait for people to explore the new Northland from Autumn 2023.”

Sustainable development

Vicinity is committed to sustainability in the design and construction of its developments and in the engagement with local stakeholders.

Sustainability strategies have been employed in the development of Northland’s refreshed Entertainment and Leisure Precinct, including stormwater reduced peak discharge, which will reduce the risk of flooding in the area by introducing bioretention basins and additional permeable areas. The new Precinct’s use of vegetation and shading to assist in reducing the heat island effect.
